Badges and Awards

Recognition for the Younger Leaders Scheme

There are various badges and awards to achieve through the YL scheme

Young Leader Badge

The YL badge is awarded on completion of completing Module A.

It signifies that the young person has completed the mandatory safety and child protection training to keep themselves and their section safe.

It also means that they understand the basics of the YL scheme.

Mission Strips

These mission badges are awarded when the YL has completed a mission and reviewed it with the YL Unit. Providing feedback is a key part of the mission (see here).

Mission Completion

When all 4 missions have been completed the YL can wear all 4 mission strips. This shows that the YL has completed all 4 missions and Module A, not that they have completed the scheme.

Completion of YL Scheme

When a YL has completed the YL scheme (all 4 missions and the training modules) they will be awarded the YL belt and buckle. Several YLs in the district have achieved this.

YL Service Award

This service award is worn by young adults (18+) on their adult uniform if they have completed the YL scheme. It shows that, even though they might have only recently joined the adult team, they have already amassed a lot of useful leadership experience in scouting.
